Our team played a very solid game against Colgate on Saturday winning 2-0 in front of over 800 fans including many Yale women’s hockey alumni and Mandi Schwartz’s parents. The girls were fired up with the amount of energy the fans provided. Our Yale band was also in the house to help motivate!
Saturdays’ game was also planned as the annual “Whiteout for Mandi” game that started 3 years ago to help raise funds and awareness towards the Foundation created in Mandi’s honor. Last seasons’ captain, Aleca Hughes, founded the foundation and was also at Saturdays’ game to receive the “ECAC Athlete of the Year Awar” she won last year. The award was presented after the game by ECAC Commissioner and Mandi’s parents, Rick and Carol.
The team worked extremely hard promoting the Whiteout game, selling t-shirts, and obtaining great silent auction prizes. Our Yale Youth hockey girls’ team sold cupcakes during the game and raised $900 doing so! There was even a special guest appearance by NHL Montreal Canadians player, P.K. Subban, to help towards the cause.
The story of the game can be found here as well as an interview with P.K. Subban:
The team is playing great, we are getting solid goaltending…we just need to keep this rolling. Great time to start peaking! We play Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend for the first time this season. Looking forward to getting on the road again and bringing home more points!
