After final exams are over in May, a lot of people at school head down to Myrtle Beach, SC to relax and enjoy some sun. YWIH (Yale Womens Ice Hockey) was very well represented as usual, and bonded together in a room that probably was meant to only hold about half of them. The seniors stayed in a room with their respective societies, but of course couldn’t stay away from YWIH for too long the whole trip. We enjoyed dinners at our favorite and infamous locale, The International Cafe, with our favorite waiter, Chris, aka “Stinger”. Most of our days were spent on the beach though,
enjoying the rays and cooling off in the water. Some of my best memories are from Myrtle, and it is a tradition I will truly miss.
The seniors then headed back to school for Senior Week, a week full of fun, night-time events, dinners, and dances. Graduation weekend approached way too fast though, and flew by even
faster. Our families first got together at the Varsity Athletic Reception in the gym, where we enjoyed listening to great speeches and award-winners, as well as a funny slide-show with pictures of everyone playing their sport as little kids. On Sunday, all the seniors assemble for a Yale tradition called Class Day. We all sported our best goofy hats and enjoyed
listening to some really funny speeches from our peers, and of course Tom Hanks’ speech did not disappoint. Sunday night we had dinner with our families, and we were so fortunate to have Giana, our adopted Bulldog Buddy, and Donna Cardonita join us. The night ended with the Boola Ball at the gym, with the Ketchum family taking home the prize for the Best Dancers.
It was Graduation Day at last, and it was a great feeling to get that hard-earned diploma. While we are excited for life’s next journey, nothing can ever come close to the memories we have made with Yale Women’s Ice Hockey, or the truly special bond we will always hold. We are forever indebted to our teammates and coaches for aiding in our development as people during the best four years of our lives. Come September, there will be nowhere I’d rather be more than at The Whale, in our gym doing hang-cleans and squats with Joe (strength coach) and the team, preparing for the upcoming season. As grateful Alumni, we will never be too far at all from YWIH, and look forward to seeing and reading about all the successes that YWIH is on the brink of achieving. – SNIK
