Great Weekend with First Big Win and Over 15k for Mandi!

Yeeaaa! First win of the season. 4-1 Against Union. It was a tight game right until the end when we scored two empty netters in the last couple minutes. Everyone played well and it was a hard fought game. We got a lucky break in the first period when we scored off of a Union defender. We had been working hard though and it as nice to be rewarded with the first goal. Union replied with a goal of their own and then we put one in off a deflection by Raines to make it 2-1. We had the lead into the third when we took several penalties and had to work hard to shut union out. We took a penalty in the last few minutes and Union pulled their goalie but we were able to put 2 in on the empty net. UK had his first official win (of many we hope!) as the head coach at Yale and he got the game puck in the locker room after the game as we celebrated the win.

Our Amazing Teammate Mandi Schwartz

Fridays game was also very exciting, as a record breaking 1066 fans for a women’s hockey game at Yale showed up for the White Out to honor Mandi. Aleca did a lot of work to organize the White Out and it was great that all her hard work, and the efforts of everyone else on the team, paid off. We were able to raise over 15,000 that will go to Mandi and her family. R.P.I also helped out with a very generous donation of $1,000. Even though we compete on the ice it was a great show of sportsmanship for them to recognize Mandi’s struggle and help us raise money and honor her. Thanks to everyone at RPI who got involved!

Friday was also a very special day as we officially welcomes Giana to our team and showed her her stall with name plate and jersey. She seemed really excited and it was so nice to see her

smiling and having a good time. Even though we lost she told us how proud of us she was and wished us luck for the Saturday game. There were a lot of reporters in the locker room covering the story – but when it comes down to it we’re just happy to get the chance to know Giana and be a part of her life. This is also a new initiative of the Bulldog Buddies Program that we are happy to be a part of and we hope other teams hear of what a success this is and a great opportunity not only for Giana but for our team as well. It is really rewarding and we hope that more teams will get involved.

Now that we have our first win under our belt we are focused on next weekend; home games against St. Laurence and Clarkson. We’re ready for a good week of practices so we can leave the rink next Saturday with 4 more points.-Sam
