UVM TRIP

Tara Tomimoto Working on Homework During Bus Ride

After an early practice Thursday morning we hit the road mid-afternoon en route to Vermont. ‘Crumble the Catamounts’ , ‘Vanquish Vermont’, as Friday/Saturday itinerary read. We made a quick stop on the road for dinner and arrived at the Windjammer Hotel late evening. We had a quick team meeting and everyone headed to bed after around 11. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel and many of the girls got a chance to say hi to a number of parents that had made the trip to watch the games. We then headed to the rink for a short 45 minute pregame skate to get the legs moving and also to get psyched up for the game. After returning to the hotel, there was some spare time for relaxing and napping, and our pregame meal to load up for our 7 pm. game. We lost that first game 4-1 and were a little down on the ride home but also optimistic that we would have another chance to play Vermont the very next day.

The second game was definitely more exciting than the first. Everyone picked up their game and competed a lot harder. We won battles in the corners and had better puck movement. Even though, Vermont got the first goal in the third period, we kept up the work ethic and finally with less than 5 minutes left in the game Patricia got her first Bulldog goal. The game would end in a tie but it was nice to see some of our hard work payoff as we had a lot of good opportunities and just couldn’t get the puck in the net.

We had Sunday off and today we will be back at it with renewed effort. As hard as we’ve been working I think we realized this weekend that there are no easy opponents and that we will have to be at our best in every practice and every game to have a successful season. I’m sure we’ll see it on the ice today at practice.
