Hello to all of you Yale Women’s Hockey Fans! Welcome to our brand new blog! Throughout our season we want to update you with our whereabouts and activities. There will be weekly and on occasion, bi-weekly posts written by one of the coaches or our captain, Sam MacLean. We also have a face-book fan page. We hope that you will support our journey!
The 2010-2011 hockey season for most teams have already begun with regular season games being played over this past weekend. Yale and all of the other 5 Ivy league schools cannot start official practice until October 8th. We are all anxiously awaiting tomorrow to step on the ice together as a whole unit.
The girls are working extremely hard on and off the ice to prepare themselves for this season. They have had their pre-season off-ice testing when they arrived to school and yesterday just finished a second round of testing to see how much they have improved in the four weeks they have been training here. The girls are very lucky to have such a dedicated and knowledgeable strength coach, Joe Maher. He is no doubt one of the best!
With a new coaching staff and 7 new freshmen, we have all been challenged in a variety of ways. We have been working in small groups on the ice walking through some technical work since we don’t have much time to prepare before regular season games. Though, with these challenges there is a sense of anxiousness and excitement in the air!
One new addition is the Maria Dennis 3 v 3 Challenge Cup. For those who don’t know Maria, she happens to be the all time leading scorer for Yale Women’s hockey (class of 88′) and was also a former US National Team player. We will end every Wednesday practice with our 3 v 3 competition which includes 6 teams. There is a draft being held this Friday the 8th after our first official practice. The commissioner of this 3 v 3 tournament is Coach Paul Nemetz-Carlson who will also be doing a newsletter of the tournament each week. Keep an eye out for it! Attached HERE is the first newsletter.
